About Chemical Peel
What is Chemical Peel?
The solution breaks the bonds between cells in the superficial layers of the skin so they shed more readily than they would naturally. As those layers lift, newer skin beneath is exposed. Depth is determined by the agent, its concentration and how long it is left on — all of which the doctor controls. On Indian skin, choosing the wrong agent or depth risks post-inflammatory pigmentation, which is why the assessment before the peel matters more than the peel itself.

Skin assessment
The doctor examines your skin type, the concern, any previous reactions and your current skincare — including anything you may need to stop beforehand.

Preparation phase
For some peels the skin is prepared for a period beforehand with specific products. This step reduces the risk of pigmentation afterwards and is not optional where advised.

Cleansing and protection
The skin is cleaned and sensitive areas — around the eyes, nostrils and lips — are protected.

Application
The solution is applied and left for a controlled time while the doctor monitors the skin's response. Tingling or a warm sensation is expected.

The peel is neutralised or removed, soothing agents and sunscreen applied, and detailed aftercare instructions given.

- Strict sun protection afterwards is essential — this is where most poor outcomes originate
- Do not pick or peel flaking skin; let it shed naturally
- Stop retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs for the period the doctor specifies before and after
- Tell the doctor about any history of cold sores, keloids or darkening after injury
- Temporary redness, tightness, flaking and darkening before improvement are common
- Report blistering, spreading redness or severe pain rather than waiting
